Limbe Police in the commercial city of Blantyre are keeping in custody two Tanzanians and a Malawian for being found in possession of fake bank notes worth K650,000.
Limbe Police public relations officer Chifundo Chibwezo said the three: Golden Mcbole, 56, from Mbeya, Tanzania; Ali Mwasipu, 27, also from Mbeya and Herbert Black, 22, from Zidana Village, T/A Phambala in Ntcheu were arrested last week after one of them was caught trying to deposit the money.
“Black, who was a worker for the two, had stolen K50,000 from them and wanted to deposit the money at New Building Society in Limbe and the bank discovered that the money was fake
“They alerted us and we arrested him...He revealed there was more money from where he had taken the chunk, mentioning the other culprits and we went on to arrest them,” said Chibwezo.
She said the police found the other chunk amounting to K600,000 at the Tanzanian’s shop in Limbe.
The three are still in custody at the station. The PRO said they will appear in court either Wednesday or Thursday to answer charges of being found in possession of fake currency.
