Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Chifundo Kachale has convicted and sentenced Wed Captain, 20, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for sodomising a boy, 9, of Kawale 2 in Lilongwe.
Captain, who hails from Chirombo Village, Traditional Authority Ngozi in Neno, was charged with sodomy which is contrary to section 153 (a) of the Penal Code and against the order of nature.
According to Lilongwe Police public relations officer Sub-Inspector Ramsy Mushani, police paraded four witnesses.
Mushani said Captain sodomised the boy on July 10 when he was taking a bath at his grandmother’s home.
“The accused entered the bathroom at the time the boy was having his bath on the pretext that he wanted to pass water but he promptly produced a knife and forced the boy to lie down and he defiled him,” said Mushani.
Kachale said what the convict did was not welcome in society and as such he [deserved] a custodial sentence despite his mitigation that he is still at school and a first offender.
In a separate development, Mushani said police are keeping three Tanzanian men for being found in possession of medical drugs without licence at Mulanje Rest House in Lilongwe.
The men—Aziz Abubakar, 27, Raphael Minga, 45, and Ali Muhamed, 24—were found with 146 packets of Indomethacin and 5 tins of Erythromycin. The value is yet to be established.
He said the three will appear in court soon. |
