Peterson Ngumuya, brother to gospel music’s big name, Allan, is about to release his second album, Uthenga Wanga.
In a telephone interview from his base in Manchester, United Kingdom, Ngumuya said the album was almost complete.
“We have finished recording and all that is left is mastering. The album should be out in the next one and a half months. I plan to send some songs [to Malawi] by July 10 so people can sample what I’ve done,” said Ngumuya.
The album has been produced by another Malawian also currently in Manchester, JJ Munthali together with Panji Kawonga, a Zambian.
The tracks on the album are Zikomo Yesu, Bwera, Dansi La Ambuye, Akalowe Ndani, Zidzaululika, Zosangalatsa, Mudalira Yani, Umuwuze Iye, Mpingo, Mavalidwe, Geni and the title track, Uthenga Wanga.
Ngumuya, said all the tracks except Akalowe Ndani, were recorded at Tribute Studios in Manchester.
“I did Akalowe Ndani in Malawi at MC Studios with Chris Kelly some four years ago. It’s deliberate that all songs are in Chichewa because I plan to sell the album in Malawi,” said Ngumuya.
The album is in reggae and Afro R‘n’B. Zidzaululika has traits of manganje and tchopa.
Ngumuya has been in the UK since 2002. He cut his first album more than four years ago.
