Sports journalists who are attending the on-going cricket seminar have hailed the forum, saying it is an eye-opener to them as people who disseminate information about the development of various sporting activities in the country.
But the scribes have urged organisers Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) to organise the forum as often as possible because the sport is very complicated and knowledge for it needs to be revived.
Speaking during the two-day course, which started on Thursday at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre, The Daily Times sports journalist Peter Kanjere said the seminar was good for everybody who writes about sports.
“It is an eye opener because I did not know most of the terminology used in cricket. Honestly, I was reporting on something which I did not know.
“But by the end of this course, I will effectively be reporting on the sport, and the MCU should be holding the courses regularly so that we do not forget the issues in the sport,” he said.
MBC Radio One sports journalist Peter Fote agreed with Kanjere saying the in Malawi, most sports journalists do not know the terminology they are supposed to know.
“This is the second time the MCU is organising this event and it fills the gap left by the first course organised last year.
“There is need for competent reporting.
