Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has revised the remaining first round fixtures of the flagship league in order to accommodate national soccer team engagements which were initially not included on Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) calendar submitted to the former.
At the start of the season Sulom produced a booklet containing fixtures covering the 2006/07 season, but the league’s administrative officer Benjamin Mhango said Wednesday the remaining fixtures for the first round have been reviewed because of the Flames’ participation in the four-nation mini tournament to be hosted by Mozambique next week as well as the international friendly games against Botswana which will be part of the country’s Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
“We would have loved to stick to the initial fixture, but then we have no choice but to accommodate Fam’s programme since most of the national team players come from the Super League,” said Mhango.
According to the revised fixture, Big Bullets will host Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday instead of next weekend, the match between Sammy’s United and MTL Wanderers which was scheduled for Saturday, has been switched to Sunday. The other games remain unchanged.
“The game between Bullets and Silver has been revised because the Flames will be in Mozambique next weekend while that between Sammy’s and Wanderers has been shifted from Saturday to Sunday to accommodate the Bullets/Silver game at Kamuzu Stadium,” explained Mhango
He also said similarly, the Bullets were supposed to take on Sammy’s on July 8, but the game has been shifted to July 16 because it clashes with the Flames/Botswana game to be played in Lilongwe.
At the start of the league Sulom general secretary Chris Kamphinda Banda put the clubs on guard, stating that the fixtures were subject to changes.
“Anything a human being makes, meets changes ...it is a human way of living,” Kamphinda Banda was quoted as saying.
