Entertainment
Lilongwe holds gospel show
by George Ntonya, 09 June 2006 - 06:56:37
One of the country’s gospel music giants George Mkandawire will on Sunday join other artists in entertaining music lovers in Lilongwe, organised by the Golden Voices Band.
Hellen Daka Maulidi, well known for her number Mau Adzaima, Joe Nkhoma, Lloyd Mainuka of the Chinjoka fame, Golden Harps and Lamiton Limala are expected to alternate on stage during the show which is expected to start at 1PM at Kalambo CCAP Church in the city’s Ares 25 township.
Golden Voices Band, one of the groups featuring regularly on Malawi Television with the song Ndimu-konda, has organised the live performance to raise money for its outreach programmes and at the same time provide entertainment to gospel music lovers, said band member Ken Siyabu yesterday.
The band also expects that patrons will return home blessed because of the messages in the songs.
“This is the first time we have organized such a big show involving George Mkandawire who will travel all the way from Blantyre to support us,” said Siyabu .
He said part of the proceeds will go towards meeting Mkandawire’s travel expenses and other costs relating to the show.
As the groups will be spreading the word of God through music, other gospel groups will also be in a
choir festival organized by Kachere CCAP Choir at Kafita Church in the city’s Area 23.
