Marching Soldiers in charity
by Andrew Mtupanyama, 05 May 2006 - 06:33:54
Words only without deeds are like a garden full of weeds, goes the saying. But not for Bangwe-based gospel outfit, The Marching Soldiers, who have embarked on ambitious projects to live the message they carry in their songs.
The gospel artists who recently launched Yesu Asamala project to feed communities around Thundu CCAP base will tonight unveil another innovation to help them carry the message to distant places. The new project, 100 days of Jesus Campaign, will be unveiled at a fund-raising dinner at Shire Highlands Hotel in Blantyre.
Proceeds from the dinner, which starts at 6:30 pm, will kick-start the fund-raising effort for the tour which is expected to run from August 1, to October 30, this year.
The group’s chair, Mike Banda, says the project will take a message of hope with emphasis on Gender and HIV and Aids to all districts of Malawi within 100 days. He says they plan to spend atleast three days in every district during the campaign.
“Tonight we will be launching basket funding for the project. It is a multi-million kwacha project which requires funding from many donors,” said Banda.
He says the money will be used to purchase Bibles, branding T-shirts and providing other items which will be distributed during the tour.
The mood of the evening will be set by veteran musician Wendham Chechamba, who will play jazz supplemented by The Marching Soldiers own vibes from their Yesu Asamala album.
