Foster Mijiga, the man who stepped in to manage youthful reggae band Black Missionaries after the death of their mentor Evison Matafale, is dead and the leading reggae outfit have described the demise of their manager as sad and disheartening.
Mijiga, who has been with the Missionaries from September last year, died on Friday in Namibia after a short illness.
Band member Anjiru Fumulani said “things have fallen apart for the band”.
“Mijiga left for Namibia on April 12. But before he left, we had a series of vital meetings where we laid down so many plans. We planned that he would take us to Canada and Cape Town in South Africa soon,” said Fumulani.
He said Mijiga was an example of managers that “help musicians for the love of music”.
“He had no strings attached to the help he offered us. His death isn’t just our loss, but everybody’s. He was our father and brother,” mourned Fumulani.
Mijiga took the Missionaries to Namibia where they stayed for three months and cut a DVD late last year.
Fumulani said the body of the late Mijiga would be flown in from Namibia tomorrow and possibly laid to rest on Friday in Mapanga.
