| Bt Distilleries bankrolls pool tourney |

Mzuzu pool players and lovers were intoxicated with joy when Blantyre Distilleries, distillers of Big Five spirits, sponsored an individual pool tournament at Luwinga Social Club.
Dick Botha Jnr emerged the champion after outclassing the city’s big-names. Botha Jnr went home K6,000 richer.
Chibavi-based pool master Vincent Banda, scooped second position, while Robin Chimoyo was third. Banda got K4,000 while Chimoyo pocketed K2,000.
The winners also received assorted 750ml bottles of Big Five spirits “to flex their muscles after the game'”
"We appreciate the support from Big Five and we hope this is the start of a long time partnership. The prizes are a motivation, and we are optimistic that more people will participate in such tournaments," said chairman of Mzuzu Pool League Shanks Gondwe.
Gondwe however appealed to companies and organisations for league sponsorship.
"We have organised competitions, but we feel we can do better if sponsorship comes in. Anyone that has patronised drinking and social places in Mzuzu would agree with me that pool is a darling in Mzuzu," he said.
Blantyre Distilleries' Northern Region distributor Chawanangwa Gwamba said he was pleased with the way the pool players and officials had organised the contest. He said he was optimistic that the relationship between the pool fraternity and Big Five spirits would be enhanced. |
