Silver 5 Chiwoko 1
After missing in action for about two months, striker Jimmy Zakazaka quenched his Carlsberg thirsty with a hat-trick as Silver Strikers demolished Chiwoko 5-1 in a Carlsberg Cup second round match played at Civo Stadium on Saturday
The youngster, who has been kept out by a serious leg injury, announced his great come-back in just under half an hour with three second half strikes that completely took away the fighting spirit from the LDFL giants.
The two teams had fought a barren first half. But after pep talk, the flood gates opened for Silver, who eventually swarmed all over the soldiers. Midfielder Nyadani Billie opened the scoresheet with a close range shot after chasing a through ball from James Kaniche.
On 57 minutes, Zakazaka made it 2-0 after getting a pass from Peter Mgangira. Defender Itaye Nundwe, who had earlier on wasted a number of good opportunities made up for his mistakes in the 70th minute after connecting in a cross from Mgangira, who had exchanged passes with Zakazaka from a short corner kick.
Chiwoko’s Benjamin Kaliwo hit the soldiers’ face-saver from the penalty spot after defender Godfrey Banda had fouled Michael Milanzi in the box. Kaliwo’s powerful drive caught goalkeeper Noah Lambulira on the wrong foot before kissing the roof of the net.
As the soldiers’ hopes rose rekindled, Zakazaka silenced them with two quick goals, to ensure a safe ride for his team into the third round.
Chiwoko’s coach, Chancy Nsema accepted the defeat.
“We have to accept the loss. We managed to hold them in the first half but they used their experience to punish us in the last half,” said Nsema after the final whistle.
His counterpart Young Chimodzi said his boys lacked aggressiveness in the first half but came for it in the last period after talking to them. Commenting on his teams’ next Carlsberg assignment with Red Lions in Zomba, the coach said: “We know it will be very tough but we have to survive.”
