Government of Malawi has given a green light to Kenya Airways on their request to increase frequency in Malawi.
The airline’s country manager Phil Mwakitawa said the nod was given during a meeting between Transport Minister Henry Mussa and Kenya Airways managing director Titus Naikuni last week.
The meeting was initiated by the airliner.
“The meeting was successful,” said Mwakitawa. “The Minister has said the Malawi government does not have any problems with out request on increase of frequency.”
The country manager said Mussa asked the airliner to formalise their request through the Kenyan Government.
“So we will be contacting our government to touch base with their Malawian counterparts,” said Mwakitawa.
Kenya Airways finance manager Lloyd Mahowe said Tuesday Kenya Airways currently flies to Malawi five days in a week but has the capacity to have daily flights between Lilongwe and Nairobi.
He said Kenya Airways does not fly to Malawi on Mondays and Fridays but would prefer a new Friday frequency to connect passengers to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Bangkok in Thailand over weekend.
Kenya Airways has embarked on an ambitious project of expanding its frequencies on its already existing routes and also opening new routes to West Africa, the middle and Far East.
