Dairibord widens consumer choices
by Our Reporter, 25 April 2005 - 16:16:14
Dairibord Malawi Limited on Friday launched new fruit juices, peanut butter and tomato sauce in what managing director Phillip Msindo said is a drive to widen choices for families.
The new products, currently being manufactured in Zimbabwe, are Lyons peanut butter, Lyons Quench and Sunfresh in two-litre bottles, RabRoy tomato sauce and Fun ‘N’ Fresh fruit juice in mango and orange flavours.
Quench and Sunfresh are squashes which consumers will be diluting to taste and the products are currently selling at K215 (about $2) per two-litre bottle.
“We have increased the product range to widen the family choice,” said Msindo.
Msindo said in an interview that his company is currently importing the new products from its sister companies in Zimbabwe but will soon start producing them locally.
“We have launched the brands to make our consumers get used to the products which we will soon start producing locally,” he said.
Patrons to the launch said in random interviews they liked the taste of the squashes which are in sweetened mango and orange flavours.
Msindo said the launch of the new product range is in line with Dairibord’s mission statement which says the company should strive to be a market leader by providing consumers with top quality premium brands.
He also told patrons to the launch that to achieve aspirations in its mission statement, Dairibord has set aside K70 million to buy new machinery.
Dairibord Malawi was established in 1998 through the privatisation process when Dairibord Zimbabwe bought 60 percent shareholding in the Blantyre plant of the then Malawi Dairy Industries.
The company has a plant in Blantyre and a distribution centre in Lilongwe which caters for the Central and Northern regions.
