Man found naked in office
by Taonga Sabola, 21 April 2005 - 14:10:47
Life came to a stand still on Tuesday morning at Malawi Telecommunications Limited headquarters at Maselema in commercial capital Blantyre when workers found a man naked in one of the offices.
According to eyewitnesses, the man seemed to be in a state of confusion and could not say what he was doing in the office.
“We were very confused and we failed to work because we suspected him to be a wizard and had come to cast a spell on us,” said one of MTL employees who did not want to be identified.
Kaunda Maliko, a security guard at the Lamya House, said they do not know how the man entered the building without any breaking or security officers noticing his presence.
“All the windows were closed and doors securely locked, and there was no any breaking,” said Maliko.
Limbe Police public relations officer Chifundo Kansunje confirmed the incident but brushed aside allegations that he was a wizard.
“Of course, he was brought to Limbe Police station and after some interrogations we found out that he was a lunatic,” said Kansunje, adding that there are documents to support his mental status.
He said the man was coming from prayers at Limbe Cathedral when he entered MTL driver’s waiting room where he took off his clothes and was left with only a woman underwear and a rosary.
Kansunje, however, could not say how the man found himself into the building without any breaking.
The man, who has been taken to Zomba Mental Hospital, comes from Mataka Village in T/A Likoswe’s area in Chiradzulu.
