Fam Cup launch shifted to April
by Oris Chimenya, 25 March 2005 - 13:27:45
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Cup task committee has adjourned to next month the launch of the association’s cup.
The committee’s vice chairman Wilkins Mijiga said in an interview on Thursday that the launch has been postponed due to logistical problems such as meetings with potential sponsors which have not yet taken place.
“Among other issues, most of the sponsors we contacted told us that they would like to meet us in a forum where we would introduce our concept and explain to them what exactly we are doing and we are yet to meet them.
“We want to move at a pace which is convenient to the potential donors and sponsors and we are not under pressure to launch the cup now or today,” he said.
Mijiga also said so far the committee has not yet calculated how much they have raised from the three fundraising functions it has held so far.
“But the K10 million ($93,457) still remains our target. We will raise part of it and take it to the donors who will top it up,” said Mijiga.
Meanwhile, the committee has organised another Easter fundraising show to be held at the BAT Ground on Saturday where among other entertainment activities musicians Joseph Tembo, Mlaka Maliro and Ben Michael and the Jenna Sisters will perform.
The task force is a sub-committee of Fam.
Initially the cup was supposed to launched either in the first or second week of this month.
