Civo go top of the Super League
by Leonard Sharra, 01 March 2005 - 14:02:08
After facing a heavy scare at Dwasco the previous day, Civil Service United (Civo) were in top form on Sunday, when they knifed Admarc Tigers 2-0 to move to the top of Super League log table.
Midfielder Noel Mkandawire, who at times plays as a striker, and former Silver Strikers forward Dyton Chizuze were behind the visitors’ destruction as they scored one each in both halves to spoil an otherwise good start by Tigers, who had beaten Mafco 1-0 the previous day.
As Tigers fought the soldiers, Civo were having it tough against the lakeshore giants, Dwasco, who only surrendered their 1-0 lead four minutes from time.
But playing at their home base on Sunday, the civil servants were in total control of the proceedings against the visiting Tigers.
Coach Young Chimodzi, whose started the new season with a 1-0 victory against high spending Silver, expressed satisfaction with proceedings so far.
“We are gradually picking up and the boys are showing signs of maturity. Let’s hope this spirit will continue,” said Chimodzi after the game.
Asked if he had worked on the attitude problem by his troops who seemed only to put up gallant fights only when meeting giants like Bakili Bullets, MTL Wanderers and Silver last season, Chimodzi said: “That was a psychological problem and we have told the boys to take every game seriously if we have to be competitive.”
Tigers’ caretaker coach Ibra Mwase blamed the 2-0 loss on a poor approach and failure to take instructions by his boys.
“Our approach today was erratic and the boys did not utilise instructions after being talked to at half time,” said Mwase.
The servants now lead the 13-team pack with seven points from three games.
